About

UAE Legal AI is a personal project by Khamis — a public demonstration of how AI-assisted retrieval can make legal research faster and more accessible. It searches 1,890 public documents collected from official UAE government websites.

How search works

• Hybrid retrieval: every query runs through both a keyword index and a semantic index, blended together. Results found only by meaning — not keywords — carry the "≈ semantic match" tag.
• Runs entirely self-hosted: embeddings are computed locally; no third-party AI APIs are involved in basic search.
• Citation-aware: typing "33/2021" or "Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021" resolves directly to the instrument.
• Out-of-scope detection: queries about Dubai tenancy, DIFC employment, visas, and other known gaps are intercepted with pointers to the right official source instead of misleading results.
• Research mode: an optional, share-to-unlock tier backed by Claude that can read multiple provisions across documents and synthesize an answer — every quote is independently verified against the real source text before being shown.

What this site does not do

• It does not give legal advice, and it is not a law firm.
• It does not modify legal text: documents are shown verbatim as extracted from official publications (or as a disclosed machine translation).
• It is not affiliated with any UAE government entity.

The pipeline

Playwright crawlers → PDF/DOCX text extraction → heuristic + AI metadata structuring → citation/status enrichment → local embedding index. Roughly 2.6 million words of legal text, rebuilt as sources update.
