1. PURPOSE
The purpose of the Research Integrity Committee (“RIC”) is to uphold and promote the
highest standards of research integrity within MBZUAI. The RIC is responsible for
overseeing the ethical conduct of research and integrity issues regarding paper, ensuring
compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and guidelines in reference of UAE law,
and investigating allegations of research misconduct. The committee plays a vital role in
safeguarding the integrity and reputation of research activities conducted within the
organization.

Member selection must ensure that the member has research expertise from one research field. Research
field is to be defined by Provost Office and Research Office. Call for external expert in case of special need.
Tenure of RIC member is 2 years.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1. Promoting a culture of research integrity, ethical conduct, and responsible research
practices within the University, in reference of UAE law. The Committee would

promote awareness of ethical considerations, such as proper data management,
authorship, conflict of interest disclosure, and responsible use of research funds.
3.2. Providing enabling tools in relation to education and training on research integrity
and ethical conduct to researchers, faculty, and students who are expected to
maintain research integrity throughout their research projects.
3.3. Developing and enforcing policies, procedures, and guidelines that govern the
ethical conduct of research, to ensure that research activities comply with
applicable regulations, laws, and institutional policies.
3.4. Investigating allegations of research misconduct, fabrication, falsification, and
plagiarism, ensures that allegations are thoroughly examined, protecting the
integrity of the research process and the reputation of MBZUAI.
4. MEETING FREQUENCY
4.1. The Research Integrity Committee meeting will be ad-hoc, meeting as needed.
5. REVIEW
5.1. The Research Integrity Committee will review this Charter on an annual basis. Any
proposed adjustments to the Charter will be presented to the President for
approval.
